Case Study
North Ayrshire Council - Healthy Eating At School Consultation
North Ayrshire Council provides school meals to over 7000 school pupils throughout Ayrshire. They have recently implemented the
Scottish Executive’s flagship initiative ‘Hungry For Success’ to improve the healthy eating amongst all school pupils.
Brief
The Council commissioned InChannel to undertake a research survey to determine how successfully the ‘Hungry for Success’ initiative
was being implemented within North Ayrshire Primary Schools, and to help develop a strategy for increasing the uptake of school meals.
The purpose of the survey was to ascertain the views and levels of satisfaction of all stakeholders, including pupils, parents and
guardians, catering staff and teachers, on the new ‘Hungry For Success’ programme, and to determine what improvements, if any, should
be made.
Results
Through thorough planning and implementation, the survey was a highly successful exercise, with questionnaire returns up to 75% higher
than other comparable local authority surveys. The results of the survey were used to create a key findings and recommendations plan
which has been the basis for many improvements made to the ‘Hungry for Success’ initiative in North Ayrshire.
Client Comment
"From the initial contact with In Channel, it was clear that they knew the market we were dealing with and they had a number of ideas
that could get our message across effectively to parents and to children. They listened to our design ideas also and incorporated
these into the end product."
